"I still don't know what I was waiting for..."

Nepenthe, September 1993

I have not always been overweight. Growing up, I was healthy and in shape. From puberty - I was 5'2" in 5th grade - until my junior year in college, I weighed between 120 and 125 pounds. The journey to obesity began when I was away at college, homesick and depressed. I gained about 15 pounds in only a couple months - quickly enough to get stretch marks. Through the past 17 years, I've lost a little, put more on, lost some, and put yet more pounds on.

As of this writing, I tip the scales at 201 pounds. And now...nearly half a lifetime since I started to gain weight, I am newly determined to get healthy and lose the weight that affects my health and my life.

I've made a plan to lose a pound a week by getting more active and watching what I eat (I've signed up for The Best Life Diet program for the next three months, at least).

I'm planning to do a blog post every four weeks to chart my progress. I hope you'll join me for the journey.

"So I turned myself to face me..."

  1. You go girl. I hear you and my story was quite similar. Now I have chronic fatigue which doesn't help. I'm down to 212 from 216 early this year. Two years ago I was 184 and in 2004 I was 165.

Keep up the good work! It is hard but fun to shop for clothes. I always say my size eights are writing me love letters and pretty soon they'll be sending out a search party!

  2. It's just so freaking easy to gain the weight and like a thousand times harder to lose it! WTF?

Good for you for losing those four pounds even with your CFS!!
