Exhausted, but not giving up the fight

This week, I probably could have gone to bed at 8 o'clock each night. But I managed to stay up past 10:30 each night.  Why?  Because grown-ups don't go to bed before 10 pm...or at least not if you're someone other than my mother. I think I need to rethink this perspective, because teaching while tired is a bit like swimming with sharks while you're bleeding.  Students can sense weakness...then they keep picking away, pushing, prodding...and you can't leave, you can't give up- you have to keep trying to teach, no matter how tired or exhausted or drained you feel. Here's to getting enough sleep...even if it's a too-early bedtime.

Working for the Weekend

I love my job.  Other than being an award-winning actress, or wealthy lady of leisure, I can't imagine a job I want more.  But there are moments, and sometimes whole days, where I don't like my job. This week, it's felt like I've been fighting a losing battle to get the students to learn, to get them motivated, to get them to be respectful.  And that's not a nice feeling.  I know I'm still in the process of getting the students in the routine of school.  I know I'm still adding content to what I'm teaching throughout the day, so the days are not full.  I know I'm still learning what I need to be doing.  But I don't like all those feelings.  Tomorrow is Friday. And I am very thankful for it.  I'm looking forward to getting caught up, looking forward to getting my room set up the way I want, getting things into place so I feel better.  So, here's to working for the weekend.
