Lessons I've Learned from My Dog

I'm sure any writer with half an ounce of talent has waxed poetical about insights they've learned from their dog.  And so, it's my turn.

What I've Learned from My Dog

Have high expectations for yourself.
Bob never fails to attempt to jump up to the exam table at the vet.  He's never gotten up there without help, but that doesn't stop him from trying.

Sometimes you can make people smile just by being you.

But if you can't do that, never give up on trying to make a second impression.
The introduction to Alice could have been better...but Bob has never stopped trying to get Alice to like him.  She may finally be admitting he's a good dog.

Never underestimate the power of prayer and positive thinking.
This one has gotten us through ER visits, seizures, and thyroid issues.  We're hoping it will help us through the newest challenge, arthritis.

Eat the good cheese.
Bob clearly prefers Tillamook Medium Cheddar over any cheaper brand.  And let's face it, so does his mother.  And so, we get the good cheese.  It's worth it to pamper ourselves.

Find what makes you happy.
Sleeping belly up under the coffee table. Rolling around on the carpet after a bath (growling is a nice extra touch). Playing.  Eating.  Cuddling.  If you've got these, it doesn't matter if you're a little sore, or if occasionally a seizure will happen, these are the things to focus on.
