A few days ago, a dear friend of mine experienced a death in her family. This is a startling and heartbreaking reminder that our time with our loved ones is not limitless. There is so much that we can get caught up in during our daily lives - but stopping to remember and be with the people who are important to us is essential.
I have this saying on my fridge: Put Things With Feelings First. It's a good reminder that laundry, bills, grading, facebook, can wait while I spend time with my pets, my friends, my family.
I think I need to post another saying about spending time with friends and family. Often I put aside time with friends because of lesson plans or grading or playing a game on facebook - that is not what I want to spend my time doing. It's not essential. I want to figure out how to streamline my lessons and grading procedures so I have more time to spend on the important people in my life.
I also want to start saving money so I can visit my far flung friends and family. It's a sign of maturity to manage finances well. It's also a sign of maturity to be able to see what is important and honor that.
To all my friends and my family, I don't say it enough but I am so glad you are in my life. I will make more of an effort to be with you, in any way I can. Life is meant to be spend with the ones we love, that is why we are here.
