Learning to Hold On Loosely
Two facts about me that I don't know I'm very happy about: I'm competitive, and I like to be in control. I like to think of myself as an easy-going, 'march to the beat of your own drum' type person. I think I might have to make peace with the fact that I'm more intense than that. And that's not a bad thing. I still have friends who love me - friends who probably realized these two things years ago and still have remained my friend. Friends like Michelle, who I had a wonderful lunch and knitting session with on Saturday, who, when I shared my realizations just smiled at me and agreed.

Well, your competive nature can be directed for good. Just as you notice attributes in your students and direct them, you can direct those natural tendencies for good. You wouldn't do all this fundraising and purchasing of awesome math tools if you didn't have the competitive nature.
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing out that competitiveness is a good thing. It wasn't a prized trait when I was growing up, so I have a hard time seeing it in a positive light.
